An Nuo's choreography is pure perfection. Her work touches the heart so deeply, you are captivated, breathless, moved literally to tears. An Nuo's training as a dance/movement therapist is so evident in her work, which has an emotional depth few choreographers or dancers ever achieve. An Nuo's dancing draws the audience in, makes every person in the room feel they are dancing as well, and not just dancing but soaring! To witness An Nuo's choreography and dancing is to be filled with joy, and makes the witness glad to be alive.

Unique vision really a blend of views from both east and west. Her central themes always seem to be human freedom on one hand; and our place in nature on the other. She conveys these things by integrating dialogue, voice, songs and props into her unique blend and into a dance and drama. I love especially her nature themes and the way her troop presents. This presents constant aspirations of how we look in the vast ocean and of climbing a glacier to get to top and see a cold whole new world as she says. In An Nuo's choreography, you can feel the mountain air, the cold water, the danger and the calm when things go well. And in these things, importantly role must wrestle with the terrible problem of global warming, she does beautifully.

  • Jeff Stonehill

    Attorney and Art Advocate

The dancer, creator, writer, choreographer, director and producer is An Nuo. Most importantly, it has a strong and timely message about climate change and the need to protect the environment and animals in the wild. The show is based in Alaska and reminds us that the glaciers are melting and that the warming climate is injurious and disruptive to nature and us and that we should be closer to nature in our life. It presents a loving spiritualism and integrity, perhaps naivete (but isn't it more naive for short-sighted politicians and developers to believe there is no danger to our quality of life not to act as guardians of the earth to protect wildlife and the air and water we depend on for future generations?), which reflects the personal beliefs of Nuo. I recommend following An Nuo and her dance projects in the future. They have important things to say through their talented dance performance style. I highly recommend that people invest in the new production which will be on a larger scale. I think something which will be successful and it's been very timely.

Using multisensory movement to reflect on the global warming crisis, the production also hopes to serve as a wakeup call to human-induced climate change. If emissions continue at their current rate, scientists anticipate widespread coastal land loss, agricultural and economic collapse, food and water shortages, frequent and severe natural disasters and an unparalleled refugee crisis.

MOVING THROUGH TEA

Moving Through Tea represents the “Spirit of Tea” by moving through senses of sight, smell, taste and feeling though body and mind. In development since 2014, An Nuo views this work as both a duty and mission of a dance artist from China. An Nuo enhances her combination of Authentic Movement, Zen, and Taoist Meditation with impressions from those visits.

TEA – PEACE, FORMATION, AND POWER

Green Tea emphasizes Peace
Green tea is the earliest tea produced in the world, it is also known as “non-fermented tea” as the tea leaves are made without fermentation. Dried green tea leaves are dark green in color, brewed tea is golden green, and the tea leaves after brewing are fresh green. Green tea retains the most polyphenols and other natural ingredients during brewing that are beneficial to human health, while also providing a cool and refreshing drinking experience. Its freshness is comparable to the coming of spring, and its taste “is as short and sweet as one’s youth.” Green tea is often brewed with a transparent tea set so that anyone is able enjoy the gorgeous colors of brewed tea leaves dancing, and be able to fully embrace the aromas of the tea.

Black Tea emphasizes fermentation, formation and maturity
Black tea is a fully fermented tea, with tea leaves processed through four basic techniques – wilting, kneading, fermenting and drying. The dry tea leaves are mostly black, with the brewed tea color bright red. Black tea has a strong aroma and mellow taste, bringing the drinker warmth, sweetness, grace and spiritual radiance. These strong properties have led black tea to being the most widely produced and most consumed tea in the world.

Pu’er tea Emphasizes Power
Pu’er tea from the Yunnan Province of China is made using dried green tea leaves through fermentation. The fermented Pu’er tea leaves are formed into compact tea bricks making the tea leaves convenient for storage and transportation. Pu’er tea includes naturally fermented raw tea leaves, as well as artificially fermented tea leaves. Pu’er tea’s charm and attractiveness lies in its post-fermentation process, suitable for long-term storage – the older the tea, the better its flavor. After long periods of storage, its strong tastes converge, miscellaneous tastes are dissipated, and the aroma becomes mild and mellow. While waiting for the tea to age gracefully, the future is perceived as open and full of possibilities, with the completion of the tea akin to a gorgeous rebirth.
